Komatsu wins bumper order from Ugandan government

23 Feb 17 The Ugandan government has ordered 401 items of Komatsu plant for use in road construction and improvements.

The graders, wheeled loaders and other equipment have been ordered by the Ministry of Works & Transport and will be put to work in 112 regions.

The order is part of an export sales contract agreed between Sumitomo and the ministry for about  600 units of construction and other equipment and about 500 vehicles for the total amount of about JPY17.8bn (£126m).

In addition to recent economic growth, Uganda is a rich agricultural country and so a key task for the government is to construct and improve provincial roads to enable the distribution of farmed produce.

Komatsu has had a contract with a local distributor since 1998. Ten people selected by the government will be trained in machine operation and maintenance at Komatsu’s training facility in Japan for two weeks before machine delivery. In addition, a dispatch one trainer to Uganda from Japan for a month at the time of machine delivery.
