LafargeHolcim commissions solar plant in Jordan

23 Jan 17 LafargeHolcim has signed an agreement for the construction of a solar plant that will produce up to 25% of the power needed to supply the Rashadiya cement plant in Jordan.

The agreement between Lafarge Cement Jordan and Adenium Energy Capital covers the setting up of a solar power plant, which will be the first of its kind in the region.

The new solar power plant is in line with LafargeHolcim’s sustainability strategy, which aims to cut the company’s net CO2 emissions per tonne of cement and seize opportunities to use more renewable energy.

Adenium Energy Capital CEO Wassef Sawaf added: “It fills us with pride to play an important role in Jordan to advance the use of alternative energy. We are very pleased that Lafarge Jordan decided to be part of this journey.”

The solar power plant is expected to up and running in July 2017.
