Laing O’Rourke on shortlist for Newcastle light rail

27 Apr 16 New South Wales in Australia has shortlisted five companies as managing contractor for the Newcastle Light Rail project.

Earlier this year, qualified organisations had been asked to register their interest in tendering for the project.

"After an enthusiastic response from industry, I am pleased to confirm the five organisations invited to tender,” said minister for transport and infrastructure Andrew Constance. He said the respondents all have either previous experience or are currently completing light rail construction projects.

The companies on the shortlist are:

  • CPB Contractors
  • Downer EDI Works
  • John Holland
  • Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction
  • McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust)

“The NSW Government is committed to delivering a world-class light rail system in Newcastle and the five organisations selected have the right experience and expertise to help us do so,” added Constance. “Their interest is an endorsement of our plans to revitalise Newcastle and shows the private sector understands our commitment to progressing this important project.”

The shortlisted companies will now be invited to submit a response to the government’s invitation to tender. The contract is expected to be awarded this year.
