Laing O'Rourke selected to build £200m Dumfries hospital

2 Sep 14 Laing O'Rourke’s High Wood Health consortium has been selected to build and manage a new £200m general hospital in Dumfries.

Construction will start in spring 2015, said the project client, NHS Dumfries & Galloway.

Project director Dennis O’Keeffe said: “Following an intense period of competitive dialogue and evaluation, we are pleased to announce High Wood Health as our preferred bidder. Their proposed solution is one that brings to bear a consortium of designers and contractors with considerable expertise and resources to fulfil our expectations.”

Highwood Health is a consortium with Laing O’Rourke as construction partner and Serco providing estate management services.

Balfour Beatty was also shortlisted for the contract in September 2013, along with Skanska. Skanska withdrew in November.

NHS Dumfries & Galloway chief executive Jeff Ace said: “This is the major milestone that we have been working towards for months now, along with two bidders who have produced the final designs for the kind of facility that we need so that our staff can deliver the best care possible for our patients.”

Mott MacDonald and Keppie Design have been working as technical consultants on the project since July 2012.
