L&Q plans offsite construction for Whitechapel development

6 May 14 An £80m contract to build 600 apartments using offsite prefabrication methods is being put out to tender by a London housing association.

London & Quadrant Housing subsidiary Quadrant Construction Services (QCS) is seeking a construction partner for its Whitechapel Central design and build contract.

It is envisaged that the design will incorporate a precast concrete frame with bathroom pods ranging from five storeys to 26 storeys. The design and works will also include infrastructure works associated with utilities, drainage, roads, street furniture and landscaping.

QCS said that the selected contractor would be required to maximise the use of offsite methods of construction and modularised mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems in its delivery of the contract.
