Cimic subsidiary Leighton Asia has been appointed by Hong Kong’s government to build the East Kowloon Cultural Centre.

The AU$436m (£253m) contract includes the construction of a three-storey building, three studios with capacities of between 120 and 250 seats, a 1,200-capacity auditorium and a 550-seat theatre as well as other facilities such as a restaurant and box office.

Cimic Group chief executive officer Adolfo Valderas said: “Cimic Group and Leighton Asia are pleased to contribute our engineering expertise and innovative building solutions to help reinvigorate the eastern Kowloon region and provide significant socioeconomic benefits for its people and communities.”
