Lend Lease Deptford Ltd has been set up to bring forward the project.

The master plan for the 4.5 hectare site, called The Wharves, has been produced by architect Hawkins\Brown, which values the development at £150m. Other reports suggest it could be double that.

According to the architect: “An impressively scaled water body will provide a focus at the heart of the site – a wharf for the 21st century, offering visual and physical amenity, ecological and environmental benefits. The proposals establish gateways to and routes across the site, linking it with the existing community, the River Thames and other new development sites such as Convoys Wharf to the south and Marine and Cannon Wharf to the north.”

Over the last three years Lend Lease has gained planning permissions for more than 3,100 homes in inner London.

Lend Lease Europe chief executive Dan Labbad said: “We have secured a strong residential pipeline in the capital. By recycling a number of mature assets we have released equity in order to reinvest in regeneration areas such as Elephant & Castle, Stratford City and now Deptford.

“Deptford is an area of London that will see a remarkable transformation over the next few years, drawing on its rich heritage and excellent transport links.”
