6 Jul 16 Larsen & Toubro has begun work on a Mumbai Metro project worth 52.7bn rupees (£594m).

The project on Line 3 is being carried out by L&T Construction’s Heavy Civil Infrastructure Business and its partner, STEC of China. The scope of the project includes design and construction of underground stations and associated tunnels for packages 1 and 7 of the project.

There will be underground stations at Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Church Gate, Hutatma Chowk with associated tunnels for Package 1. Package 7 includes underground stations at Marol Naka, MIDC and SEEPZ with associated tunnels from International Airport to SEEPZ for Package 7. The project is scheduled to be completed in 48 months.

“This is a significant win in the heavy civil infrastructure space and we hope that this is a sign for many such projects involving vital infrastructure that are in the offing,” said SN Subrahmanyan, deputy managing director and president of L&T.

The company is already building major metro projects in India and Middle East, he added.
