Luton airport hatches light rail plan

20 Apr 16 A new light rail link at Luton Airport connecting the terminal to Luton Airport Parkway station could be built by 2020 under plans announced this week.

London Luton Airport (LLA) intends to build a mass passenger transit system, similar to those already in use at Gatwick and Birmingham airports, to replace the current bus service.

Chief executive Nick Barton said: “Improving rail links is a crucial part of LLA’s development, and integral to ensure that we provide the best service possible for all our passengers. The creation of a light rail link between Parkway station and the terminal is a significant milestone in the airport’s transformation and the first step towards creating a world-class air-rail service.”

LLA is currently investing more than £110m to increase capacity from 12 million to 18 million passengers per year by 2020.
