Macau airport expansion moves towards tendering

19 Jun 14 Mott MacDonald has completed its conceptual planning work for the expansion of Macau International Airport’s passenger terminal and produced draft tender documents for the design and build contract.

It was appointed sole consultant by the airport’s public concessionaire, which is expanding the facility to meet the expected growth in passenger numbers.

In 2013 the airport handled over 5 million passengers and expansion is necessary to accommodate an expected increase in international flights. Mott MacDonald’s role was to deliver a conceptual plan for developing the passenger terminal. This included all planning for structural, electrical and mechanical engineering elements and necessary airport systems.

Jason Wong, Mott MacDonald’s project director said: “The expansion project also provides a real opportunity to create a multimodal transport hub by connecting to the Macau light rail transit, providing passengers with more transport links to the airport.”
