Man killed in Glasgow boom lift failure

21 Jun 12 A building worker was killed in Glasgow yesterday when the boom of a truck-mounted aerial work platform failed.

Photos from the scene clearly show that the boom buckled while extended. This brought the man working in the basket crashing to the ground, hitting scaffolding on the way, according to eyewitness reports.

Another man was seriously injured and rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with head injuries.

The incident happened at around 12.30pm yesterday (20 June 2012) during refurbishment of Buchanan House in Cowcaddens, Glasgow. The building houses offices of Network Rail and Transport Scotland.
