McAlpine to build £9m Harrogate cancer centre
Sir Robert McAlpine has been chosen to build a new £9m oncology centre at Harrogate District Hospital.
Work begins with the demolition of a few hospital office buildings on the corner of Lancaster Park Road and Wetherby Road to make room for the new unit.
The Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer Centre has been made possible by a £3.5m donation from Sir Robert Ogden, the Yorkshire quarries tycoon.
Macmillan Cancer Support is contributing £3.5m and Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust the remaining £2m funding for the scheme, which will also include new car parking to replace that which will be lost when the new unit is built.
