McNicholas bags two Network Rail framework contracts

3 Mar 14 Network Rail has awarded McNicholas two electrification & plant framework contracts for its infrastructure projects southern area covering the Wessex, Sussex and Kent routes.

McNicholas will provide design and build services for general electrification and plant assets and high voltage (HV) feeders during the fifth five-year control period (CP5), which begins on 1st April 2014.

The contract says that the general electrification and plant framework will typically encompass enhancement of 750V DC track feeder cables and along track positive cables, substation rewires, renewal of impedance protection relays, renewal of lighting, earth farms, signalling power, points heating and a range of other fixed plant asset services.

The HV feeder framework covers the refurbishment and/or replacement of existing HV feeder cable routes between substations, replacement of existing oil filled cables with new 33kV cabling, renewal of the existing pilot cables and installation of new optical fibre telecommunication cables.

McNicholas chief executive Barry McNicholas said: “We are absolutely delighted to have secured these two long-term frameworks with Network Rail and we are committed to deliver the value that has been promoted throughout the procurement process working collaboratively with the client team. These two awards further cement our position as a key supplier to Network Rail.”
