Morris Leslie Plant Hire (MLPH) has invested more than £35m in its hire fleet this year, buying 850 machines to support growth plans.

This follows the acquisition of three former Ambrose Plant Hire depots in May 2013, in Northampton, Newark and Stockport. With MLPH’s own depots in in Burgess Hill, Exeter, Perth, Plymouth, Saltash, and Woking, it now has nine depots around the UK.

MLPH’s machine purchases in 2014 included: 400 telehandlers from JCB and Manitou; 250 excavators from Kubota, Case, JCB and Volvo; 175 Thwaites dumpers and 30 Hamm rollers.

While some of the investment represents fleet renewal, more than 60% of the new assets are for growth, the company said.

MLPH now has more than 700 telehandlers, cementing its position as one of the top five telehandler fleets in the UK.

For 2015, MLPH will increase capex by 30% to £45m and is about to place a series of orders for 1000 machines.

Group operations director Graham Ogilvie said: “2014 was an important year for us, with the acquisition successfully completed in 2013 and a significant investment to meet our growing national client base’s needs. We are continuing to invest heavily in equipment to ensure we can meet our customer requirements and offer a modern plant fleet to rival any in the business. I believe 2015 will be another successful year for the group as we continue to expand throughout the UK.”
