He joins from Balfour Beatty, where he was operations director of its aviation division, and reports to Morgan Sindall managing director of civil engineering Nick Fletcher.
Mr Cannin will be based at Heathrow, where he worked for more than 10 years in his previous role, which included being the project director for the Heathrow Terminal 2 programme.
Morgan Sindall’s major projects at Heathrow Airport include a £31m runway rehabilitation scheme and the replacement of seven air bridges in partnership with Thyssen Krupp. Morgan Sindall also has a £6.4m contract with British Airways to modernise two aircraft hangars at Heathrow in preparation for the arrival of the new B787 Dreamliner and B777-300ER aircraft.
