Morgan Sindall wins £150m cabling deal

4 Nov 14 Morgan Sindall is set to generate £30m a year by laying power cables in the West Midlands.

Morgan Sindall has secured a framework agreement with Western Power Distribution for the excavation, cable laying and reinstatement works within its West Midlands region. It already has a similar agreement in the North Midlands area.

The on-site works start this month. The initial term of the agreement is three years, with a further option for a two year extension, making the deal potentially worth £150m over the full term.

The work involves supporting Western Power Distribution to maintain and enhance the electricity network across the Midlands, ranging from the installation of 11kV to 33kV distribution cables. As part of the framework agreement, Morgan Sindall will take on both planned and reactive works. Ofgem targets require the team to respond to reactive works within one hour of call out.

Morgan Sindall Utility Services managing director Simon Smith said: “This framework agreement expands on the work which Morgan Sindall is currently undertaking for Western Power Distribution in the North Midlands. This is a key win for our Utility Services business.”
