NCC picked to expand Swedish rail line

23 May 14 NCC has been commissioned by the Swedish Transport Administration to expand the Svealandbanan railway line under a SEK975m (£87.5m) contract.

NCC’s assignment includes building 8.5km of double-track railway, 3km of rock tunnels and nine bridges. The expansion of Strängnäs–Härad section is intended to benefit regional development by increasing the frequency of train services on the line.

“Sustainability will be in focus throughout the project and we will comply with our Green building concept,” said Svante Hagman, head of NCC Construction Sweden. “This means that we will create energy-efficient establishments in the form of eco-labelled electricity, energy-efficient structures, needs-based lighting, energy-efficient equipment, efficient transport and environmentally compatible management of waste products."

NCC will start work this summer and the entire expansion project is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2018. The project is estimated to employ approximately 60 people.
