Netherlands launches probe into safety of railway crossings

The Dutch Safety Board has launched an investigation into the safety of level crossings following recent fatalities.

The decision was taken following a number of recent collisions on railway crossings, including one at Harlingen that killed two people in late March.

The board intends to investigate whether and how safety on railway crossings can be improved and how an announced remediation of unguarded railway crossings is taking place. The exact questions, scope and design of the investigation will be determined in the coming weeks.
