Network Rail targets New Zealand with new hire

15 Apr 14 Network Rail Consulting has appointed a director of asset management and maintenance to focus on developing its consultancy business in New Zealand.

Philip Chalk had worked as an asset management advisor to Network Rail in the UK, during a time when it was transforming its approach to asset management. He has now joined Network Rail Consulting in New Zealand. He will help expand the rail consultancy’s business in New Zealand and Australia and advise clients on asset management.

Chalk has over 30 years' experience in senior management roles. He has provided strategic asset management advice aimed at achieving best practice to both the public and private sector organisations. He has worked on projects in New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia as well as the UK. He holds a master's degree in engineering and is a fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ).

Peter Koning, general manager of Australia and New Zealand for Network Rail Consulting, said: "These are exciting times for the consultancy business as we seek to broaden our reach internationally. Philip brings a wealth of experience to the team; his knowledge and expertise will hugely support Network Rail’s international consultancy division."

Network Rail Consulting aims to harness the skills and experience available within Network Rail to demonstrate British expertise overseas and be an international ambassador for Britain’s rail industry. It also seeks to help channel innovation back into the core business, helping deliver a better value railway for Britain.
