Manchester Airports Group, owners of Stansted Airport, has plans to double throughput from the existing approximately 20 million passengers per year, including adding new long-haul destinations.
Urban & Civic plans to build an adjacent hotel with direct pedestrian access into Departures at Stansted Airport. Construction is scheduled to start in July 2015.
Conditional contracts have been exchanged for Urban & Civic to acquire the virtual freehold of a two-acre site for £8m.
The hotel will be operated under a major branded franchise and the target is to be open for Christmas 2016.
Urban & Civic executive chairman Nigel Hugill said: “Development of a new 330 bedroom on-terminal hotel at Stansted is further demonstration of an unequivocal positioning towards consumer facing investment in identified regional UK locations where real disposable incomes look set to rise.”
