Shaun Lee had been acting regional secretary since September 2014 and is now confirmed as the permanent successor to Cheryl Pidgeon.
Mrs Pidgeon, Ucatt’s first ever female regional secretary, is the Labour Party candidate for the constituency of South Derbyshire, where she is seeking to overturn incumbent Conservative MP Heather Wheeler’s 7,128 majority at the general election in May.
Mr Lee has worked for Ucatt since 2003, initially as a health and safety advisor and since 2008 as a regional organiser in the Midlands. He also has national responsibility for Ucatt members working in the Prison Service.
Mr Lee said: “Construction is notorious for shoddy employment practices and workers are too often exploited. My role is to ensure that workers get what they are entitled to. I am looking forward to leading a united team of officials and lay activists who are committed to fighting for the rights of construction workers.”
