Newcastle offices become student rooms

19 Jan 16 Torsion Group has begun work on the conversion of a 1980s office block in Newcastle into purpose-built student accommodation.

St James’ House will be operated by Prime Student Living, the student accommodation arm of Crosslane Group, which has bought the freehold to the site.

The £15.5m development will have capacity for 140 residents with communal facilities including common room, gym, kitchen and dining room for group entertaining, study room and cinema room. The building is next to St James’ Park and close to Newcastle University campus.

The scheme has been designed for Crosslane Group by Day Architectural. The contractor is West Yorkshire’s Torsion Group, which specialises in building student accommodation and care homes.

Work on site started this month and completion is expected by September 2016, in time for the start of the next academic year.
