Steve Wood succeeds Mike Quinton who resigned from the NHBC in January.

Mr Wood has worked in insurance for more than 30 years. Before joining NHBC, he was chief executive of Paymentshield, a subsidiary of Towergate Insurance that distributes general insurance products to the mortgage intermediary market. Before that he was UK managing director at Ecclesiastical Insurance Group.

NHBC chairman Isabel Hudson said: "We are delighted to have appointed Steve as NHBC's new chief executive. As the UK's leading new home warranty insurance provider, NHBC has a strong history of working with the house-building industry to help improve the construction of new homes and providing warranty insurance cover for new home buyers. Steve brings considerable experience of consumer markets, distribution channels and stakeholder management, all of which will assist in leading the commercial development of NHBC and setting the business on the right tracks for the future."

Steve Wood said: “NHBC has a unique role to play and, as chief executive, I look forward to building on NHBC's important work, ensuring that we continue to provide excellent service to our policyholders and our builder customers and continue to make a positive impact on the quality of new homes.”
