Norway to get new port terminal

29 Feb 16 A new port terminal is to be built in the Norwegian port of Tromso, following the award of a construction contract to Peab subsidiary Björn Bygg.

The SEK305m (£25.6m) project for Tromsø Havn is intended to allow the number of passengers a year to be doubled from the current 1.4 million.

“We want to be an important community builder in Tromsø and this project is really something that develops the community,” said Arild Østgård, CEO Bjorn Bygg. “We know that a new terminal is awaited by residents, tourists and the local business community.”

The new 12,000m2 terminal will cater for both freight and passengers. It will include offices, a bus station, restaurants and arrival hall for the Hurtigruten passenger and freight service.

Construction will start in April and the terminal is expected to open in February 2018.
