The demolition team will first remove the disused buildings on the Princess Way land adjacent to the canal before demolishing the long-term unused high bay warehouse on Derby Road. The works are expected to take around six months.

Pirelli will continue to operate from its office and factory at the centre of the new development.

St Modwen senior development surveyor Ian Romano said: “We have spent many years working with Pirelli, residents, the local authority and statutory consultees to bring about this scheme and are looking forward to delivering an attractive new environment where people can work, visit and live.”

Pirelli UK Tyres chairman and CEO Dominic Sandivasci added: “It is great to see demolition work begin on the surplus buildings. It won’t be long before the new development is being built, creating a fantastic boost to the area both economically and aesthetically.”
