Procurement portal sees usage grow

13 May 14 Construction buyers’ use of Constructionline, the government-owned register of prequalified contractors and consultants, grew by 5% during the first three months of 2014.

Compared to the same months of 2013, usage was by more than 17%.

Constructionline managers totted up the number of tender lists and supplier searches run on the database, which is used by more than 2,000 buying organisations in the public and private sectors. They say the increased usage indicates a significant rise in work opportunities across the construction industry.

The announcement mirrors last Friday’s data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showing construction output during Q1 2014 up 5.4% year-on-year.

Constructionline has also experienced a growth in members using its service. Some 2,171 new suppliers have registered since the start of the year, increasing the membership to nearly 23,000. At the same time, the rate at which buying organisations adopted the service has also increased, with more than 2,646 construction clients now registered.

In the last year some of the UK’s largest contractors have signed up to adopt Constructionline, PAS91 and SSIP, including Vinci, Kier, Bouygues UK, Lend Lease, Seddon, Longcross Construction, Lakehouse, Bullock and McLaughlin & Harvey.
