Rail safety role for Turner & Townsend

16 Jun 15 Network Rail has handed construction consultant Turner & Townsend a three-year deal to coordinate health and safety measures.

The project delivery (CDMc) framework will be used to coordinate health and safety measures on a series projects across Network Rail’s UK property estate and commercial portfolios.

Turner & Townsend’s appointment follows recent changes to the CDM (Construction Design & Management) regulations which remove the CDM co-ordinator role and impose new duties on the client and principal designer. Turner & Townsend will assist Network Rail in ensuring all health and safety duties are met across the project life cycle.

The firm is already briefing Network Rail designers on their duties via a series of open two-day training courses.

UK managing director Jon White said: “Our expertise in both cost management and health and safety means we can play a key role in helping Network Rail to complete the projects in the framework within budget, efficiently and without compromising on safety.”
