RG Carter breaks ground on wind farms

29 Jul 14 Civil engineering contractor RG Carter has broken ground on its latest Cambridgeshire wind farm projects.

The contractor has started on site for developer Triodos at the Boardinghouse and Floods Ferry Road sites, near March.

Five turbines are being erected at Boardinghouse, with a combined generation capacity of 10.25 MW. They are expected to take 14 months to build and be operational by September 2015.

EcoGen, who are also part owners of the wind farm along with Triodos Renewables and the local landowner, are managing the project.

At Floods Ferry Road, the construction period is expected to be shorter with one turbine with generating capacity of 1.5MW to be installed and is likely to be operational by the end of 2014.  This turbine is on a brownfield site owned by potato farm Greenvale and is expected to provide enough energy to power Greenvale’s potato processing facility.  The remaining energy, around 40% of the total output, will be supplied to the local electricity network.  Work on the site has already seen construction of the piling platform for the driven precast concrete piles that will support the turbine foundation and is being project managed by Wind Prospect.
