The new building, which represents a £40m investment by the university, will be home to teaching and research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics – STEM subjects.

RG Carter is expected to complete construction in 2018.

“Our new STEM building will support the ambitions of regional policymakers to enhance the skills base in Luton, extending opportunity for local residents and attracting investment to the region,” said vice chancellor Bill Rammell.

The four-storey building incorporates 6000 m2 of teaching and laboratory space and will allow the university to offer a range of new science courses including pharmacy, nutrition, physics, biochemistry, chemistry, geology and mechanical engineering.
