The 1726 m2 (18,577 sq ft) building will have 191 apartments for private rent. Called The Gateway, it is being developed by X1, which selected Forrest as its contractor.

This is the third contract that Forrest has been awarded by X1 and its fourth private rented sector (PRS) scheme in Manchester. It recently completed phase one of X1’s Eastbank project in Manchester city centre, and was appointed to deliver phase two, X1 The Plaza, in January 2016. Forrest is also building M-One Central, a £12.6m block of flats for Factory Estates.

Senior project manager Matthew Fisher, who joined Forrest to support the X1 developments, will oversee the Gateway project.

Neil Ashworth, head of new build at Forrest, said: “Strengthening our profile in the private residential sector continues to be a driver behind our diversification strategy, especially as growing property demand pushes new-build development in the sector even higher.”
