Samsung picked for Singapore court towers

1 Mar 16 Samsung C&T has won a S$450m (£230m) contract for the construction of the State Courts Towers in Singapore.

The contract involves the construction of two connected towers with an estimated gross floor area of 113,000m2.

Construction works are expected to start by the second quarter of this year and to take about three years. The State Courts Towers are slated to be operational from 2020.

The 178m-tall towers will be linked by a series of sky bridges that enable the controlled circulation of court visitors and staff. The Court Tower comprises the courtrooms, hearing chambers and supporting functions while the other will house the offices and other support functions.

The two towers are designed to be eco-friendly and will feature naturally-ventilated corridors and high-rise gardens to provide shade from the afternoon sun. The high-rise sky terraces will have  gardens. The towers will also use renewable energy such as solar power panels.

When completed, the State Courts Towers will accommodate more than 60 courtrooms and 50 hearing chambers.

The project was launched in 2011 with an open design competition, which was won in 2012 by Serie+Multiply Architects.
