Saskatchewan awards dam rehabilitation contract

30 Sep 15 SaskPower has appointed SNC-Lavalin as owner’s engineer for the Island Falls powerhouse concrete rehabilitation project in Saskatchewan.

The Island Falls Hydro Station consists of seven units, ranging in capacity from 13.2MW to 18MW. It is located approximately 15km from the village of Sandy Bay.

The total capital cost of the project is CA$45m (£22m). SNC-Lavalin will provide the detailed engineering design and prepare drawings and technical specifications necessary for the tender and construction. The work involves concrete rehabilitation with repairs to the Island Falls powerhouse, main dam and another dam. SNC-Lavalin will also supervise construction and provide contract management support across the work’s eight phases. Completion is due in 2019.
