SES gets £18m package at food science centre
Wates Construction has confirmed sister company SES Engineering Services is to be its M&E subcontractor on its Quadram Institute project in Norwich.
Wates Construction signed a £63.5m contract to build the food and health research centre at Norwich Research Park last summer. It has now handed SES an £18m package for mechanical, electrical and plumbing services.
The 14,000 m2, five-storey building, designed by NBBJ, will provide a clinical and research space for 400 scientists and clinicians, bringing together research teams from the Institute of Food Research (IFR), the University of East Anglia as well as Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Quadram Institute will contain a variety of specialist laboratories, lecture theatres and offices, and will also feature an endoscopy suite. Photovoltaic panels and ground source heat pumps have also been incorporated into the building design to enhance energy efficiency.
The building is scheduled to be ready for final handover in March 2018.
