Seven contracts available for Bristol's £53m guided busway

28 May 12 Bristol’s £53m guided bus scheme has gone out to tender, divided into seven separate design and build contracts.

Work consists of the design and construction of a guided busway, alteration and construction of the highway, new bridge construction and repair and improvements to existing listed bridges.

Bristol City Council is the client for some of the elements and South Gloucestershire Council for others.

The seven elements of the project are:

Lot 1: Construction of a segregated busway between Long Ashton Park and Ride and Prince Street Bridge. Estimated value is £30m. Starting 1.11.2013, completion 30.4.2015

Lot 2: Ashton Avenue Swing Bridge - Refurbishment and improvement of Ashton Avenue Swing Bridge including a new pedestrian and cyclist facility / maintenance track. Estimated value is £1.3m. Starting 1.7.2013, completion 30.4.2014.

Lot 3: Prince Street Bridge - Strengthening and improvement works to Prince Street Bridge and closure to car traffic. Estimated value is £1.3m. Starting 1.1.2014, completion 29.8.2014.

Lot 4: New Cut Bridge - A new bridge over the River Avon (New Cut). Estimated value is £3.5m. Starting 1.7.2015, completion 30.6.2016

Lot 5: M32 Works - A new bus-only junction and bus lane onto the M32 motorway. A new bus-only junction and bus lane onto the M32 motorway. Estimated value is £13m. Starting 3.3.2014, completion 31.1.2017.

Lot 6: Ham Brook Bridge - A new bridge over the Ham Brook as part of the Stoke Gifford Transport Link. Estimated value is £2m. Starting 1.7.2015, completion 31.12.2015.

Lot 7: Church Lane Bridge - Demolition and replacement of the Church Lane bridleway bridge. Estimated value is £1.8m. Starting 3.3.2014, completion 29.8.2014.
