Shepherd to build Blackpool's new Sainsburys

11 Dec 12 Shepherd Construction has landed a multi-million contract to build a new Sainsbury’s store as part of the first phase of the mixed use Talbot Gateway project to regenerate the northeast side of Blackpool.

The client is Muse Developments, which is leading the regeneration project in partnership with the town council.

The 50-week construction programme on the 12,500m² supermarket is scheduled to begin next week. Work will comprise the construction of a three-storey building and mezzanine office space, with a complex faceted glazed façade that will be 100m wide and 17m high. A two-storey, 600-space car park will be built above the store.

This is the fourth project that Shepherd Construction has carried out on behalf of Muse, having delivered the St Paul’s Square Development in Liverpool in three phases. The last phase of this scheme saw the delivery in 2011 of No 4, a speculative office development which was completed ahead of programme, below budget and with zero defects at handover.

Project architect is Leach Rhodes Walker, structural engineer is Arup, quantity surveyor is Davis Langdon and M&E consultant is WSP.
