Skanska team wins $245m bridge contract
White-Skanska Koch JV has won a US$244.6m (£156m) design and build contract for the new Fore River Bridge.
The contract is one of five ‘mega projects’ being carried out under the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) accelerated bridge programme.
“The action taken by the Board today allows MassDOT to continue delivering on the Patrick-Murray Administration’s pledge of job creation and infrastructure investment for the benefit of our current and future customers,” said MassDOT secretary and CEO Richard Davey.
“The new vertical lift moveable bridge will allow for two lanes of traffic in each direction.
The project to replace the Fore River Bridge is one of five ‘mega projects’ in the accelerated bridge programme. As of 1 June 1, programme had completed 90 bridge projects, with another 72 under construction, and an additional 25 scheduled to start construction within the next year.
