Spain awards €93m water services concession

Acciona Agua has won a €93m (£73.7m) water services management contract for the municipality of La Unión in Murcia, Spain.

The concession of the management of the drinking water supply and sewer system for a 25-year period. The company will service nearly 19,000 local inhabitants.

Acciona already operates locally in the municipalities of Molina de Segura, Archena, Ceutí and Lorqui, which, along with La Unión, represent a total population of more than 120,000 inhabitants. It also has similar contracts with more than 70 municipalities across Spain, and serves more than three million inhabitants.

Acciona Agua will manage the integrated water cycle and will also take care of the commercial side of the operation. It will also use technology to improve the efficiency of existing infrastructure and make it more environment-friendly.
