Spie lands £12m gas mains renewal

4 Oct 16 Gas distribution company SGN has handed Spie UK a two-year mains replacement deal across the Thames Valley and Oxford.

From October 2016, Spie is tasked with managing the renewal of up to 60km of gas mains and service lines.

The contract is valued at £6m per year.

As part of the programme Spie will re-lay existing pipes in line with SGN specifications. It will also handle the decommissioning of a number of metallic gas mains along the route; new mains will be installed using live gas insertion techniques intended to minimise interruption to customers. Mains will also be installed using dead insertion and open cut mainlaying.

Steven Nanda, managing director of Spie UK’s industrial services business, said: “As with any street and road works, Spie’s focus will be on completing schemes in the shortest time possible to reduce community disruption, without compromising health and safety whilst ensuring our operations cause minimum impact to the environment.”

SGN operations director Peter Webster added: “We have enjoyed a great relationship with Spie over the last year, and we look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come.”
