Storage system for pick-up trucks makes UK debut

25 Feb 14 A storage system for pick-up trucks that made its debut on the US version of Dragons’ Den is now available in the UK.

Auto Styling Truckman is now selling the system, which is used for storing equipment such as ladders, after striking a European distribution agreement with its US inventor, DeeZee.

The Invis-A-Rack Cargo Management System is designed for tradespeople and contractors, including plumbers, builders and joiners. The retractable cab-level racking system can carry ladders, timber or pipework on a flatbed pick-up truck.

The system was initially launched in the USA by Iowa-based Company, DeeZee after its inventor, Donny McCall, pitched the system on Shark Tank, the US-version of Dragons’ Den.  The inventor walked away from the show without investment as he wasn’t keen on the panellists’ insistence that he outsource production to China rather than continue to manufacture the system in the USA.

It is manufactured from lightweight aluminium and can hold 220 kg, which allows it to carry heavy materials including metal pipes, timber and sheet material.  When not in use, the rack can be folded away into rails clamped to the pick-up without impacting on truck bed storage space.

Mike Wheeler, managing director of Auto Styling Truckman, said: “The Invis-A-Rack is the ideal solution for tradespeople who need to transport long items, like pipes or ply wood, and want to keep their pick-up bed open rather than adding a hardtop with ladder rails.

“There is nothing like this available in the UK and European pick-up truck market and we are delighted to have secured this agreement with DeeZee. I met Donny at this year’s SEMA show and was immediately impressed with the product. As a UK-based manufacturer and distributor, I was also keen on DeeZee’s commitment to maintain its manufacturing operation in the United States.”
