Strabag to modernise Hamburg museum

6 Aug 14 Strabag subsidiary Züblin has been awarded the contract to modernise the Hamburger Kunsthalle art museum in Hamburg, Germany.

The extensive renovation works will be carried out through a partnering contract model with ECE. The project is being financed by a €15m (£12m) donation from the Dorit & Alexander Otto Foundation, which was established by Hamburg-based entrepreneur and patron of the arts Alexander Otto and his wife. As part of the renovation measures, the Hamburg Senate additionally decided to renovate the museum’s depository and to redesign the outdoor facilities.

The modernisation project is being guided by the idea of reviving the historic main central entrance in the original building. When it reopens, all of the Hamburger Kunsthalle’s building components will be united in a single museum complex. Renovated rooms and some new facilities will help to improve the working conditions for the research, restoration and administration departments. A new museum café will also be built.
