Strukton wins €50m Swedish rail maintenance contract

9 Jan 15 Strukton Rail has won a five-year contract to maintain the railways around Malmö in Sweden.

The Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket, awarded the €50m (£39m) contract, which begins in September and could be extended by a further two years after the initial five-year term.

The contract includes maintenance of 360km of railways: the stretch running between Simrishamn and Arlöv, the Ystad Line from Malmö to Ystad), the route linking Arlöv, Malmö and Lockarp as well as parts of the freight line through Skåne.

Strukton Rail will have full responsibility, involving preventive maintenance of the track, electricity, catenary and signalling technology together with functional repairs in case of failures. The company will also take care of snow removal and will prepare the railway lines with snow-protection measures and points heating.

“We are very pleased with the job as it is of great strategic importance for us,” said Alf Karlsson, regional manager at Strukton Rail. “The contract allows us to further develop our business in the south of Sweden and strengthen our presence in Scandinavia's most expansive region.”
