Survey finds reduction in major injuries

22 May 14 The latest accident index from the Building Safety Group (BSG) shows that there has been a significant decrease in the number of major injuries reported by its members.

Among the 750 companies that use BSG services, accidents keeping an employee off work for seven days or more fell 32% in the quarter from the 1st February to 30th April compared to the previous quarter.

There was also a significant decrease in accidents in other areas with a 50% drop in the number of people harmed while exposed to a dangerous substance; a 25% drop in people injured due to a dangerous occurrence and a 25% drop due to some other incident.  The figures represent accidents across BSG’s membership of more than 20,000 people in 3,500 workplaces across the UK.

BSG managing director Paul Kimpton said: “The latest BSG accident statistics are a positive demonstration of our members’ dedication to protecting their workers through implementing best practice for health and safety.”
