Sweett drops corruption inquiry

8 Jan 14 An investigation into improper business conduct by a former employee of Sweett Group has concluded that the allegation is not proven.

On 24 June 2013, Sweett announced that it had initiated an independent investigation into the allegation, which had appeared in the Wall Street Journal two days earlier. That investigation has now come to an end. The investigators were unable to speak to former employee as part of their investigation, as a result of which it has not been possible to close it with absolute certainty.  Having reviewed the results of the investigation to hand, the directors have concluded, however, that the allegation is not proven.

The allegation related to events in 2010. Sweett said that there have been many changes in the group since then and that monitoring and reporting requirements have grown in line with the geographic reach of the business. It said that it continues to monitor its businesses to ensure that compliance with appropriate regulatory and compliance procedures and that there is zero tolerance to bribery and corruption. Sweett has begun preparations for accreditation under BS10500.
