TBMs get set to start driving Moscow tunnels

7 Apr 14 Installation is close to completion of four tunnel-boring machines that will be used by SK Most for driving tunnels of the Kozhukhovskaya Moscow subway line in Russia.

Assembly of the first of the four TBMs started in February.

The Herrenknecht EPB-6150 TBM, which has been already assembled, will be used to drive the tunnel between the Kossino-Ukhtomskaya and Nekrasovka stations, in the direction away from Moscow centre.

Assembly of the Lovat RME-242SE TBM, which will be used to drive the right interstation tunnel, is close to completion.

Also close to completion are the Robbins EPB-2015-371 TBM that will drive the right interstation tunnel and the Herrenknecht EPB-6340 TBM that will drive the left tunnel between the Kossino-Ukhtomskaya and Saltykovskaya Street stations, moving toward the center of Moscow.

The machines were used previously for driving six inter-station tunnels, extending the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line from the Vykhino station to the Kotelniki station. The 9km of tunnels were driven in less than 18 months.
