Thales lands 2,400km rail maintenance contract
Thales has been awarded a one-year contract to maintain 2,400km of new railways in Saudi Arabia.
The work covers both the mineral and passenger services of the North South Railway, which crosses the country.
The freight line, which runs for 1,486 km from Al Jalamid (phosphate belt) to Az Zabirah (bauxite belt) has been operational since November 2015. The 1,418km passenger line from Riyadh to Haditha will be operational at the end of 2016.
The maintenance contract includes any remedial work as well as predictive maintenance.
