Turner & Townsend wins role with fast-growing hostel chain

22 Jan 15 Turner & Townsend is to provide client representative and cost management services for the first site in the Netherlands selected by fast-growing chain Generator Hostels.

The 566-bed hostel will be situated in a former University of Amsterdam building in the heart of the city.

The project’s design takes its inspiration from the local Dutch style. The building features grand spaces and high ceilings; and the project will add two new floors with all-glass facades in a design intended to marry modern architecture with the heritage of the property.

In the pre-construction phase, Turner & Townsend will provide cost reviews, guidance on future consulting and budgeting needs and conduct feasibility studies on renewable energy technology, to achieve higher levels of BREEAM certification. During construction, the consultancy will administer the turnkey development agreement, ensure the quality of work and costs are monitored, manage change control, and support the completion phases.

Marvin Vos, Turner & Townsend director, said: “We are delighted to be working with such an exciting, design-led hospitality brand. Generator has an ambitious plan to offer 12,500 beds spread across 15 European properties by 2018 – and its new Amsterdam hostel will be one of the jewels in the crown.”

Rory Harte, Generator Hostels development director, added: “Turner & Townsend’s knowledge of the sector is second to none. They clearly understand our needs and this gives us every confidence they will deliver everything promised.”

The project has been developed by Amsterdam based COD and will be built by Pleijsier Bouw.
