Jeremy Corbyn told the Labour Party annual conference yesterday that he wanted to see amore council houses being built

Mr Corbyn said: “Nowhere has there been a bigger failure in the last Parliament than on housing…And there is no answer to housing without a very large council housebuilding programme.”

He also vowed to crackdown on “land hoarding” by major house-builders.

Ucatt acting general secretary Brian Rye said: “Jeremy is the first Labour leader for 20 years to understand and embrace council housing and his commitment to build homes for those who desperately need them is real and genuine.

“Jeremy’s first conference speech demonstrated that he is absolutely committed to creating a new form of politics, which puts people at its heart.

“His policies on a massive council and affordable housing building policy, the creation of an infrastructure bank to assist small and medium sized businesses and a commitment to a green new deal, are all excellent news for the construction industry, as they will promote jobs and growth.”
