UKTI highlights opportunities on $4.6bn Melbourne scheme

6 Feb 15 The construction industry in the Australian state of Victoria is set to get a major boost through the creation of a new AU$4.6bn (£2.35bn) suburb.

UKTI has identified opportunities for UK businesses to get involved.

An estimated 11,000 new homes are set to be constructed in the massive residential development to the north of Melbourne.

The AU$4.6bn development, to be known as Cloverton, will be built on 1,141ha site at Kalkallo. Proponent Stockland will construct the new suburb on a site is located on the eastern side of the Hume Highway, 35km north of the Melbourne central business district.

Construction will begin in the next few months.

In addition to providing a significant volume of new housing, the project will also feature a 60ha city centre with a regional shopping centre, a train station, four additional local town centres and a retirement village.

Stockland will also assist in the establishment of public-private partnerships to facilitate the construction of a regional hospital with ancillary medical facilities, childcare facilities, a total of eight new public and private schools and a regional tertiary institution.
