Software development specialist 3Squared has developed the Smartvest, an innovation which it says could help enhance the safety of construction and rail workers on site.
The Smartvest incorporates low-energy light emitting diodes (LEDs) that respond to potential hazards in order to notify the wearer of impending danger.
3Squared says it does this by using live data feeds from the company’s Smartsafe virtual zone management platform. Site-specific information such as site plans identifying virtual safe and exclusion zones as well as fixed hazards such as overhead power lines are uploaded to Smartsafe via the system’s web-based software.
Out on site, the software establishes and monitors the various zones, and visual alerts are delivered via the Smartvest’s coloured lighting to warn the wearer and other workers nearby
