WSP wins three windfarm contracts

25 Jul 14 WSP has won three contracts to provide civil design support to Dong Energy for windfarm projects in England and Wales.

The contracts cover the Walney Extension in the North West, Burbo Bank Extension in North Wales and Race Bank Wind Farm in East Anglia.

The contracts are for the provision of engineering services for all aspects of the civil design of the new onshore substations for the three projects. Detailed design is now under way with construction of the first of the projects expected to begin in the next six months.

Jon Johnson, senior technical director at WSP said: “Working closely with Dong Energy design engineers on a number of substations enables WSP to optimise and continuously improve the substation designs, assisting DONG Energy in driving down the outturn costs of the substations. Once complete the projects will make a substantial contribution to the renewable energy available to power the UK, helping to meet pressing Government targets.”

Benj Sykes, Dong Energy UK's country manager said: "Dong Energy is committed to the UK where we have already invested around £5 billion and we are determined to provide new opportunities for the UK supply chain to get involved.”
